It was sold in conjunction with the kabuki play Shibaraku, and the Shiose banner served as promotion. Its deliciousness made it a huge success from the very beginning.The wafers and bean paste are separate, allowing the monaka to be assembled just before eating, giving a fresh, crisp flavour that fills the mouth. Its long shelf life also makes it an excellent choice for gifts.
